WHAT IS THE NORTHERN SALOON & SPORTSCAR CHAMPIONSHIP?
As the name implies it is a northern based championship permitted by the Motor Sports Association and organised by Darlington & District Motor Club Ltd, and caters for just about every type of sports or saloon car, with 9 different classes depending upon age, engine size and modification.
The championship has seen 70 registered competitors in 27 Marques, with 43 Models and who knows how many variants of car. With 30+ competitors at each round it is a true clubmans event offering a worthwhile championship to local drivers without the necessity of travelling nationwide.
Racing mainly at Croft, the championship also visits Cadwell Park, Knockhill, Donington Park, Oulton Park, Mallory Park and Anglesey and occasionally Silverstone.
Modification on suspension, transmission, brakes, wheels and steering are free. Engine modifications are free but will determine the class, as forced induction is subject to a 70% increase in capacity and rotary engines subject to a 40% increase, (ie a 2.0ltr turbo will have a nominal engine size of 3.4ltr). Electrics are free, but subject to MSA requirements. Tyres in class A are free, in the other classes they will be from either lists 1a or 1b of the MSA Yearbook. Fuel must only be readily available pump fuel as defined in the MSA Yearbook.
Please see our Classes page for details of the different classes available in the series. All classes are reviewed at the end of each season, and possibly restructured, so please be aware of this if you’re attracted to the championship.
Darlington & District Motor Club meet the second Friday of each month from about 8.00pm at The Copper Beech Neasham Road, Darlington. Just off the A66 and about 7 miles from Croft Circuit, where you can talk to like minded club members who may able to assist with advice and help you avoid some of the pitfalls that could cost you unnecessary time and expenditure.
